About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist- Oncology position is a part-time role requiring 24 hours per week, with hours from 7am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday and every 7th Saturday from 8am to 3pm. The role involves entering medication orders, dispensing medications, evaluating medication therapy, and ensuring appropriate drug therapy for oncology patients. The pharmacist will also serve as a therapeutic consultant, conduct educational activities, and assist with compliance and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Current Illinois State Pharmacy License.
  • 3-5 years as a pharmacist with Oncology experience.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy treatment protocols and hazardous medication management.
  • Ability to assess patient data and provide pharmaceutical care.
  • Customer service and teamwork orientation.
  • Mathematical skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, and plan workload.
  • Computer skills in pharmacy systems and word processing applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).
  • Hospital Pharmacy/Oncology Infusion Center experience.
  • Epic knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of third-party reimbursement programs.
  • Knowledge of USP 797 and 800 clean room standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enters medication orders into the computer system and dispenses medications/IV solutions accurately and timely.
  • Critically evaluates medication therapy and makes recommendations to improve patient medication regimens.
  • Documents patient assessment data and clinical interventions accurately and completely.
  • Ensures appropriate and cost-effective drug therapy, addressing drug-drug interactions and adverse drug reactions.
  • Functions as a therapeutic consultant and serves as a resource for medical, pharmacy, nursing staff, and allied healthcare providers.
  • Conducts educational activities and collaborates with the integrated healthcare team to provide quality patient care.
  • Applies continuous quality improvement principles and develops criteria for drug use evaluations.
  • Provides oversight and assists with the development of evidence-based medication guidelines/protocols.
  • Assists the director of pharmacy with compliance and validation of chemotherapy protocols.
  • Oversees pharmacy technicians and ensures compliance with clean room policies.
  • Provides counseling and drug education to patients and families.
  • Participates in inventory control including purchasing and stocking medications.
  • Complies with governmental regulations related to preparation and storage of products.
  • Creates cost-benefit analyses and offers therapeutic alternatives to providers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
