About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist in the Emergency Department/Critical Care at Advocate Health is responsible for developing competency in clinical practice, including appropriate drug therapy for patients and the prevention and resolution of drug-related problems. The role involves evaluating patients for drug-drug, drug-food, drug-lab, and drug-disease interactions, and individualizing drug therapy regimens based on the patient's size, organ functions, and disease states. The pharmacist will facilitate medication-related continuity of care at admission, transfer, and discharge, and will review and accurately interpret medication orders. Additionally, the pharmacist will dispense and compound medications in compliance with good pharmaceutical practices and regulations, ensure formulary adherence, and recommend cost-effective therapies to providers. The position also includes training and orienting new pharmacy team members and may involve working with interns, residents, and students.

Requirements

  • Pharmacist license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • No experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • PGY2 in Critical Care/ED or 3-5 years of critical care/ED experience preferred.
  • Life support training courses may be required dependent on department discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Orients/trains new pharmacy team members and provides direction to pharmacy technicians.
