About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist supports the mission of the department, hospital, and health-system by preventing, identifying and resolving medication use issues to assure patients safety, improve patients’ satisfaction, optimize patients’ outcome and minimize cost. Will perform all functions of a registered pharmacist including accurate and timely dispensing, clinical interactions with patients and healthcare team, and technician supervision. The role involves actively performing all pharmacist functions, participating in established standard work parameters, and maintaining functional proficiency in and providing coverage of central pharmacy and/or satellite areas as requested. The pharmacist will oversee and ensure appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems, manage medication inventories, and supervise technician and intern practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or other advanced pharmacy degree.
  • Applicable State Pharmacy License.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or three years of clinical pharmacy experience.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS and/or NRP certification may be required for some facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Actively performs all pharmacist functions and participates in established standard work parameters.
  • Maintains operational expertise and provides coverage of central pharmacy, IV room pharmacy, and/or satellite pharmacy areas.
  • Oversees and ensures appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems.
  • Accurately manages medication inventories and prepares and dispenses patient-specific medication doses.
  • Supervises technician and intern practice, prioritizes workload, organizes workflow, and checks accuracy of pharmacy technician activities.
  • Completes critical medication order scrutiny, drug profile review, and patient monitoring.
  • Proficiently verifies/enters medication orders and communicates with medical staff to resolve problem medication orders.
  • Provides patient-centered care services and promotes cost-effective drug therapy.
  • Facilitates medication safety practices and participates in the management of medical emergencies.
  • Actively participates in direct patient care programs and collaborates with healthcare providers.
  • Mentors new staff and assists with training of all staff as requested.
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance.
