Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prefer Graduate level theological education, completed or in process, or equivalent from an accredited institution and one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education training.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/ patient valued behaviors.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Parkland’s decedent care and advance directives procedures within two months of employment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in meeting age related and handicapped patient’s needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides spiritual support to patients, families, and staff in the hospital setting to ensure the religious, spiritual, emotional, and relational needs are met. Documents all visits in medical chart including interdisciplinary plan of care as needed.
  • Responds promptly to deaths, codes and Level I traumas to assess spiritual needs of the patients and families and provide appropriate interventions and care. Responds to Level II and Level III traumas as time permits.
  • Participates fully in seminars and supervision offered in the Clinical Pastoral Education program and completes all requirements of the program.
  • Provides education about advance directives, assists patients/families to execute these documents and documents these visits in the medical chart.
  • Facilitates the decedent procedures by promptly picking up R-10’s, noting the death in the narrative log and computer death log, discharging the body from the morgue, and completing the spiritual care portion of the decedent care paperwork.
  • Participates in planning and providing morning prayer and worship services.
  • Participates fully in one of the department’s ministry teams.
