About The Position

The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program Supervisor is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and supporting the hospital's CPE program, ensuring a high-quality educational experience that integrates spiritual care, emotional support, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the healthcare environment. Working under the direction of the Manager of Chaplain Services, this role supports the professional development of CPE students and residents, maintains program compliance with accrediting standards, and fosters a culture of compassionate, inclusive care. The Program Supervisor serves as a liaison between students, clinical staff, and spiritual care leadership, bridging clinical education with the organization's mission of holistic patient and family care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in human services, Divinity, Pastoral Studies, Spiritual Care, or related field required.
  • Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) strongly preferred.
  • Eligible for or working toward certification with ACPE, CPSP, or a comparable accrediting body preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals from diverse cultural, spiritual, and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of pastoral formation, adult learning principles, and clinical supervision practices.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to balance administrative and relational aspects of the role.
  • Culturally competent, inclusive, and trauma-informed approach to education and care.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary professionals.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, mentoring, and feedback facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Clinical Pastoral Education program, ensuring alignment with the standards of [ACPE or relevant accrediting body].
  • Assist with curriculum planning, scheduling, and coordination of CPE units (residency and internship).
  • Maintain program records, evaluations, and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Chaplain Services on strategic planning, quality improvement, and program evaluation initiatives.
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and site placement for CPE students and residents.
  • Support recruitment, application review, and selection processes for incoming students.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students in the integration of theory and practice in spiritual and emotional care.
  • Facilitate learning experiences that promote self-awareness, empathy, and cultural and religious sensitivity.
  • Support CPE students in developing competencies for providing spiritual care in healthcare settings.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, assisting in the preparation of feedback and performance reviews.
  • Help ensure a psychologically safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams to identify appropriate clinical learning opportunities for students.
  • Coordinate participation in unit rounds, family meetings, and pastoral care consultations.
  • Assist in aligning CPE learning outcomes with organizational care standards and patient experience goals.
  • Contribute to staff education on topics such as communication, emotional resilience, and compassion in care.
  • Support adherence to [ACPE or relevant accrediting body] standards, policies, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in preparing materials for accreditation reviews and program audits.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student evaluations, supervisory notes, and learning agreements
  • Serve as liaison between the CPE program, chaplaincy staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in department meetings, educational councils, and community partnerships as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Education, and Volunteer Services for program logistics and onboarding processes.
