About The Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, term or tenure track teaching faculty appointment in Anesthesiology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC is a state-of-the-art teaching hospital providing specialized care for companions and production animals throughout Iowa and the surrounding states. The candidate will join an anesthesia team comprised of 4 faculty Anesthesiologists that are complemented by 6 veterinary anesthesia technicians and 2 anesthesia residents." This Clinical or Tenure Track position in Anesthesia will consist of: 60-70% Teaching: instruction in anesthesia (didactic & laboratory) As high as 10-20% Clinical (Professional Practice) in small and large animal anesthesia, with potential on-call responsibilities. The remainder of the position will be dedicated to support potential research, scholarly activity, and institutional service.

Requirements

  • DVM
  • ACVAA or ECVAA Board Certified or Board Eligible

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of clinical experience in anesthesia
  • Diplomate of ACVAA or EVCAA
  • Documented history of teaching (both didactic & clinical)
  • Description of experiences/interactions demonstrating collegiality and/or collaboration in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Primary instructor of VCS 7398 (Spring Semester) Veterinary Anesthesia (Didactic & Laboratory).
  • Collaborative role providing anesthesia expertise, supervision, course materials and grading for VCS 7449 (Fall & Spring Semesters) (Surgery, Anesthesia and Community Outreach – “SAC”) live-animal surgical laboratories.
  • Collaborative role providing anesthesia expertise and supervision in VCS 7394 Principles of Surgery II (Spring Semester – 4 weeks) surgical laboratories (feline castration).
  • A willingness to review, refine, and develop anesthesia protocols for laboratory teaching.
  • Willingness to be the primary anesthesia consultant for 4th year rotations within the umbrella of SAC, with optional clinical involvement in the anesthesia of pets in these rotations. (VCS 7425 Rotation in Exotic Pets & Wildlife, VCS 7439 Community Outreach Elective Surgery Rotation).
  • Provide clinical anesthesia and teaching in small and large animal 4th year anesthesia rotations.
