About The Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking applications for a full-time clinical/tenure-track faculty appointment in the area of Swine Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine in Ames, Iowa. The successful candidate will join a department with over 50 food animal focused faculty and 150 staff. This position will commit approximately 50-75% effort toward teaching, 10-25% towards applied collaborative research, 10-25% towards professional practice/service, and 1-5% towards institutional service. The primary focus for all aspects of the position will be on swine medicine. The successful candidate will be integrated within the Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC) and have substantial responsibilities developing curriculum, maintaining compliance with university administrative policies, effectively adopting teaching technologies, and teaching courses as well as on-farm clinical courses related to swine production medicine. The candidate will be actively engaged in teaching in the professional, undergraduate, and graduate curriculums in courses including but not limited to VDPAM 4870, 7480, 7478B, 6500, and 6550. The candidate will be involved in the scholarship of teaching and learning, clinical research, and outreach activities through the SMEC. Responsibilities will include providing professional veterinary services to the university swine farms including support of live animal research activities. Activities may include a full range of swine veterinary medicine services and research for referring veterinarians and clients throughout Iowa and the United States. The successful candidate should be collaborative and execute excellent communication skills, focus on continuous learning, contribute to research opportunities, and share their expertise with colleagues. The candidate should be eligible for veterinary licensure in Iowa. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to advancing herd health and swine production medicine, dedication to all levels of education, and active contributions to the national prominence of the Swine Medicine Education Center, VDPAM, and Iowa State University.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment.
  • Meet the requirements commensurate for each rank at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine regarding Professional Practice, Teaching, Research and Scholarly Activities, and Institutional Service.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Veterinary Population Sciences or a closely related field.
  • Experience practicing swine medicine.
  • Experience with clinical swine research.
  • U.S. Driver's license.
