About The Position

The Clinical Nursing Student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the organization's policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Clinical Nursing Student role is designed to provide clinical experience and exposure through both job shadowing of the Registered Nurse (RN) and provision of care appropriate to scope and at the delegation of the RN.

Requirements

  • HS/GED (required)
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required)
  • Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student
  • Must be currently enrolled in a professional school of nursing and have successfully completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical experience and be CPR certified.
  • Maintains and Demonstrates competency in required clinical skills/competencies.
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and basic technological abilities or completion of basic computer class.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and patient information.
  • Accurately reporting and documenting data and services provided.
  • Good Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team and patients in a manner that fosters the team concept and supports the core values of the organization.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to change and constant interruptions, with the ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities while working in a fast paced, environment.

Nice To Haves

  • BLS (preferred)
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
  • Recent experience in acute care and/or long term care facility (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Under direction of the RN, supports the nurse in the application of the nursing process.
  • Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery
  • Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
  • Provides basic patient care to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit based specialty duties.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse
  • Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's family, visitors and all employees
  • Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation when applicable for patient care
  • Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated
  • Participates in patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition)
  • Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to activities of daily living - assisting with ambulation and patient mobility, feeding, hydration and nutrition and bowel and bladder elimination
  • Utilizes clinical technology as applicable
  • Escalates concerns appropriately through appropriate chain of command
