About The Position

This position serves as a research specialist focusing on the coordination and the conduct of clinical nursing research, implementation science and evidence-based practice within the Department of Patient Care Services at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System and in collaboration with the UIC College of Nursing when indicated. This includes working closely with the nurse executive, nursing leadership, and unit-level nursing staff to facilitate strategic initiatives related to nursing research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Illinois Registered Nursing license
  • PhD in nursing or related field, or DNP
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing research, implementation science, and/or evidence-based practice project experience with progressive responsibility
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong communication (verbally and in writing), customer service, and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of budgetary processes and financial principles; knowledge of labor laws, standards of care, and regulatory standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Excel, Outlook, or PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Research, develop, promote, and manage the infrastructure for evidence-based practice, implementation science and research.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Research, define and direct the long-term goals of the evidence-based practice, implementation science and research programs to align with university and Department of Patient Care Services goals.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Nursing Research, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based practice, implementation science, and research within UI Health and in partnership with the UIC College of Nursing when indicated.
  • Identify funding sources for nursing and interprofessional evidence-based practice, implementation science, and research, including, but not limited to, local, regional, federal, private, professional, and in-house sources, and communicate information to staff and/or nursing leadership and/or staff, as appropriate.
  • Develop grant applications and manage pre- and post-award responsibilities.
  • Develop IRB applications and obtain approval.
  • Develop presentations for conferences at all levels (i.e., local through international).
  • Develop papers for submission and subsequent publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engage in evidence-based practice, implementation science and research activities and collaborative research with other hospital departments by leading research teams, educating, and mentoring.
  • Ensure that projects are planned, managed, and completed efficiently, including disseminating results. Monitor budget for programs.
  • Identify financial variables that affect evidence-based practice, implementation science and research and support good financial stewardship of projects.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for our Advanced Practice & Research Council and other councils as needed within our shared nursing leadership structure to identify, appraise, synthesize, and utilize research for policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Become a member of or attend university and hospital IRB Committee as a representative from nursing when and where applicable.
  • Support the partnership with the University of Illinois College of Nursing and other nursing school partners to promote collaboration on research between faculty and UI Health nurses.
  • Collaborate with school partner faculty and provide oversight and support for nursing students to ensure that projects are approved by UI Health, planned, managed, and completed efficiently, including disseminating results, and adhering to UI Health requirements.
  • Promote the evidence-based practice and research competency of nurses by developing and implementing formal and informal educational programs related to, but not limited to, evidence-based practice, the research process, research article critique, and the development of abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Provide consultation to nurses related to proposal development, completion of research, promoting the utilization of research findings in clinical nursing practice and policies/guidelines, and evidence-based practice projects, and dissemination.
  • Engage nurses and guide evidence-based practice, implementation science, and research teams
