About The Position

The Clinical Nurse on G20 Inpatient Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidate will be an experienced clinical nurse with at least 12 months of recent RN experience in medical/surgical or an acute care setting. Shift will be 7pm-7am, with rotating weekends and holidays required. The inpatient Hematology Service provides advanced oncology care to adult patients diagnosed with leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma and mycosis fungoides. Our health care team consists of specialized physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, clinical nurses, and ancillary staff. Typically, hematology patients are hospitalized for supportive care during active, aggressive high-dose chemotherapy/biotherapy and cellular therapy through a wide range of morbidity related symptoms, as well as re-hospitalization for treatment side effects. Inpatient Leukemia care includes diagnosis, induction, consolidation, maintenance chemotherapy and symptom management, as well as salvage therapies for relapsed disease. Patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and mycosis fungoides are treated with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents and radiation therapy on a dedicated unit. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • None
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160).
  • All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.

  • Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
  • Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
