The Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Nurse to function as a member of the pulmonary team. The team consists of 1 RN supervisor, 2 Clinical Nurse Coordinators, and 2 Clinical Nurses working with 4 APPs and 7 MDs. The Clinical Nurse will assist in the management of pediatric pulmonary, sleep, and cystic fibrosis clinical services and will be involved in phone triage and outpatient care. The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients via phone, patient portal, and in clinic. Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms; develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.   • Performs phone management with patients’ parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
  • Discusses patient and family concerns over the phone and/or via the electronic health record.
  • Provides and develops patient/family education materials surrounding common endocrinology disorders.
  • Communicates adjustments in treatment plan to families.
  • Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient’s record.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals. Communicates adjustments or changes in treatment plans to patient/family. Including medication administration.
  • Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs.
  • Communicates lab & other test results to families.
  • Provides medication refills.
  • Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
  • Works closely with triage team and endocrine staff to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
  • Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
  • Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
  • Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
  • Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
  • Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program ( NRP ) within one year of hire.
