About The Position

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager and in consultation with the Ambulatory Services Director and Medical Assistant Supervisor, assists the Nurse Manager with day to day operations of the clinical section. Provides direct day to day supervision of nursing staff. Utilizes the nursing process to provide appropriate and culturally sensitive care to UIHS clients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Understand and comply with HIPAA and other regulations concerning client confidentiality. Greet clients in a courteous and friendly manner. Customer service skills to include; listening closely to client, provide clear verbal communication, ability to empathize with client, and understanding of organizational protocol and guidelines. Identifies clients using at least two identifiers. Prepares daily and weekly schedules and work assignments for nursing staff. Actively problem solves to address staffing shortages and when necessary communicates problems and staffing issues to nurse manager or Ambulatory Services Director. Responsible for day to day operations of nursing care at specific site(s): including scheduling, calling in replacements, ordering supplies and, filling in for staff as need arises. Monitoring staff attendance, timeliness to work and other work patterns for staff and providers. Refers unusual problems to Nurse Manager. Assists in investigating and resolving nursing staff and or client complaints. Oversight and training of nurses and other assigned staff as needed. Evaluates competency skills of nursing staff. Communicates with Nurse Manager, Front Office, Medical Assistant Supervisor, Ambulatory Services Director and Chief Medical Officer as needed to coordinate schedule changes. Ensures month to month schedule is maintained in EPM by staff to facilitate appropriate scheduling of client appointments. Approves time punches for nurses and will approve time off requests only in absence of the Nurse Manager or by request of the Nurse Manger. Assigns to duty stations to maximize efficient use of staff and office flow. Determines training needs of nursing staff and makes provisions for staff training. Ensures required training is accomplished and documented. Participates in education and trainings of nursing staff. Assists in development of departmental policy, procedures and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed by the nurse manager and/or Ambulatory Services Director. Attends and participates in staff meetings and other assigned meetings. Adheres to accreditation and compliance standard guidelines. Assists in completing required reports, program reviews and AAAHC preparation. Utilizes good communication skills to maintain positive relationships with clients, providers, co-workers and other sections in the organization and with other facilities in the community. Maintains a professional, organized and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards. Provides back up for nursing staff as needed daily, for call offs, and absences. Performs clinical nursing duties as needed. · Other duties as assigned. · Performs all duties in accordance with the UIHS mission, vision and guiding principles. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly Supervises nursing staff. Carries out medical clinic coordination and day-to day operations of medical clinic in cooperation with Medical Assistant Supervisor, Front Office and in conjunction with Nurse Manager and Ambulatory Services Director. Responsibilities include: a) Interviewing, hiring and training of nurses. b) Assisting with planning, assigning and directing work flow c) Providing performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining, addressing complaints and resolving problems for nursing staff. Requirements

  • Must have Associate of Science in Nursing Degree; prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Must be able to learn an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California RN License.
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain such.
  • Shall possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to be covered by agency's vehicle insurance and provide proof of valid private vehicle coverage.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in this area.
  • Basic understanding of pregnancy and childbearing. An understanding of psychosocial dynamics. Knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse, neglect and domestic violence.
  • Ability to understand and develop administrative policies and procedures.
  • Must be comfortable working with various personalities, motivating and participating in team building activities.
  • Ability to provide leadership, evaluate and analyze program, set program goals and objectives, make difficult decisions, and be consistent and calm during crises.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
  • Must be able to work with American Indian people and be sensitive to their culture.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve the Mission, Vision and Guiding principles of UIHS.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Prefer to have at least three years’ experience in an acute care/outpatient clinical setting or equivalent.
  • Prefer to have at least two years’ experience in a supervisory position.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.
