The Wound Ostomy Clinical Nurse Specialist is an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) who provides a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The Wound Ostomy CNS provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. The Wound Ostomy, Clinical Nurse Specialist, is a certified wound ostomy nurse who demonstrates expertise in the treatment of complex wounds, ostomy issues and incontinence supporting patient care at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS). As a Wound Ostomy, Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN), you will consult and follow inpatients and out-patients with complex wounds, fistulas, and ostomies. The incumbent will provide clinical leadership in assessing, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients and their families related to prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers, other skin integrity issues, and ostomy care to include facilitating appointments, triaging phone calls, ordering appropriate therapy, prescribing medications and medical devices and performing patient education including pre-op and post-op ostomy counseling.
