The Nurse Educator/Clinical Practice Specialist (CPS) is the clinical expert in evidence-based nursing practice within a specialty area. The CPS functions both autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers to manage, support, and coordinate the care of acute and/or critically ill patients. This position is responsible and accountable for: Designing, implementing, and evaluating both patient-specific and population-based programs of care. Providing leadership in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost effective patient outcomes as well as provide leadership of multidisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues. Providing clinical teaching and supervision, and directing patient assignment for new and experienced staff. Directing and providing staff development, including training and orientation. Participating in performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling. The authority to exercise these responsibilities often requires the use of independent judgement. The CPS supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
