The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an expert clinician and advocate in a particular specialty or subspecialty of nursing practice, providing leadership in the professional practice setting. Job Description Provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives. This position specializes in nutrition support and enteral feeding management. Monitors the quality patient indicators utilizing evidence-based outcomes and the development and implementation of performance and quality improvement processes as necessary. Assesses a healthcare facility's nursing practice and its impact on patient outcomes. Uses the results of evaluation analysis to make or recommend process or structural changes, including policy, procedure, or protocol documentation as appropriate to clinical outcomes. Provides consultative care and guidance while serving as a consultant, mentor, coach, researcher, and educator to patients, families and employees. Facilitates/collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams that contribute to role development and, directly or indirectly advance nursing practice and health services. Develops evaluation strategies to demonstrate patient safety, cost effectiveness, cost benefit, and efficiency factors associated with nursing practice. Identifies expected outcomes that are achievable through implementation of evidence-based practices. Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Evaluates the practice environment and quality of nursing care rendered in relation to existing evidence, identifying opportunities for the generation and use of research. Formally disseminates research findings through activities such as presentation, publications, consultation and journal clubs. Uses research based data to assist with the development, implementation and evaluation for improved clinical practice for all ages, developmental needs, cultural, or psychosocial needs wherever needed. Also uses current healthcare research findings and other evidence to expand clinical knowledge, enhance role performance and increase knowledge of professional issues. Promotes the clinical practice by serving on hospital or community committees locally or nationally. Must be able to incorporate teaching/learning principles and adapt teaching to age groups. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations.
