About The Position

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Neurosciences provides expert clinical guidance, leadership, and consultation to enhance patient care outcomes for patients with neurological conditions. The CNS serves as a clinical expert, consultant, and leader, supporting evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and the integration of innovative interventions in the neurosciences setting. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a licensed registered nurse that has graduate preparation (master’s or doctorate) in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist. The CNS provides expert comprehensive nursing care directly to patients, supports nursing professional development, nursing practice and serves as a leader in redesigning systems to improve access, quality, and safety in a cost-effective manner. The CNS is a clinical expert in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patients experiencing various health conditions dependent on the specialty. The CNS designs and strategically implements population-based programs to enhance patient and family outcomes. Responsibilities include: clinical practice, program design/development, consultation, leadership, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As an APRN, the CNS improves patient care by putting the best evidence and innovations into practice while solving challenging patient care issues and monitoring patient outcomes for clinical effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Licensure to practice nursing in Wisconsin
  • Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist required within 1 year of employment
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days.
  • Master's or DNP degree in Nursing from a CNS accredited program is required.
  • Expertise in a specialty
  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certification within a clinical specialty area preferred (Incumbents in the position prior to June 2011 may substitute the CNS certification requirement with a minimum of 5 years work experience as a CNS).
