About The Position

Dearborn Hospital is a leading teaching and research institution, consistently ranked among Michigan’s Top 10 Hospitals. The hospital is seeking skilled and motivated nurse leaders who are clinically strong, operationally savvy, and passionate about building engaged, high-performing teams. The Clinical Nurse Manager position is for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and/or the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The CVICU is a 16-bed unit specializing in post-operative open-heart and cardiothoracic procedures, caring for complex patients requiring advanced therapies and technology. The SICU is a 17-bed unit dedicated to critically ill patients who are hemodynamically unstable or at risk of acute organ failure, providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for medical-surgical, surgical, and trauma patients. The Clinical Nurse Manager is an experienced leader responsible for the overall management of assigned units and services, providing leadership and oversight of patient care staff to support a culture of excellence in clinical practice, staff engagement, recruitment and retention, and strong clinical and operational outcomes. This role ensures safe and effective delivery of patient care, compliance with regulatory standards, and fosters a supportive work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • One year of formal nursing leadership experience (external candidates)

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • Two years of demonstrated informal leadership experience for internal candidates, which may include roles such as Charge Nurse, Lead Nurse, or participation in Shared Governance Councils

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of patient care staff to support a culture of excellence in clinical practice, staff engagement, recruitment and retention, and strong clinical and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure the safe and effective delivery of patient care while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, administrative, and clinical standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key advocate for safety and retention.
  • Leverage data, technology, and evidence-based practices to drive decision-making and proactively mitigate risk.
  • Foster a desirable and supportive work environment that enables staff and the organization to meet or exceed strategic goals.
  • Model effective communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and interdisciplinary partners.
  • Maintain 24-hour accountability for leadership and management of a designated patient care unit.
