About The Position

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital. With the recent opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope. Position Summary As a Clinical Nurse in the Pre- and Post-Operative unit at City of Hope, you will play a critical role in the healthcare continuum, providing specialized care to patients preparing for surgery, as well as, recovering patients from anesthesia and surgery. Your responsibilities encompass various aspects of patient care, from monitoring vital signs to managing pain and ensuring a smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery phase. Your expertise is essential to ensuring patient safety, comfort, and a successful post-operative recovery. You will be an integral part of our dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients. This opportunity is for full-time, 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week), and designated for the night shift (5:30pm start time).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience, PACU or Critical Care experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • ACLS through American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments including medical history review, vital signs, allergies, and medication reconciliation.
  • Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, anesthesia, and post-op care expectations.
  • Coordinate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure patient readiness.
  • Provide emotional support to patients facing cancer-related surgeries.
  • Monitor and assess patients in the recovery room/PACU for complications or adverse reactions following surgery.
  • Manage pain control, wound care, and postoperative medications.
  • Communicate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement post-op care plans.
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions tailored to oncology patients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and privacy standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide compassionate care in alignment with the hospital’s mission and values.
