About The Position

Clinical Nurse I (RN) Role Summary The Clinical Nurse I (CN I) provides direct patient care across the continuum of care while developing clinical judgment, technical skills, and professional practice. This role is designed for early-career nurses who are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care within a collaborative, team-based environment. What You’ll Do Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation Educate patients and families to support understanding, recovery, and continuity of care Accurately document patient care and outcomes in the electronic medical record Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to meet patient care goals Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and shared governance activities Follow infection prevention, medication administration, and patient safety protocols Maintain professional development through education, training, and clinical mentorship May serve as Charge Nurse following successful completion of orientation and manager approval About Howard University Hospital Howard University Hospital is a nationally recognized academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. Requirements

  • Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment with multiple priorities
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of nursing theory, patient safety standards, and clinical equipment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, alarms, and patient needs
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical practice

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
