About The Position

As part of the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you'll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us. Our CCU features 12 beds and has a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care to patients ranging from adult to geriatric, with acute cardiac medical and/or cardiac surgical diagnoses, and other medical/surgical diagnoses.

Requirements

  • Active California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Critical Care experience in an acute care facility.
  • Successful completion of a Critical Care course.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If not obtained upon hire, must begin a BSN program within one year and obtain it within two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in post-operative critical care of adult cardiac surgical patients.
  • Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps.
  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct inpatient nursing care to patients in the CCU.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care.
  • Use a range of interventions such as endotracheal intubation, ventilatory support, invasive pressure monitoring, and more.
  • Provide care for patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and vasopressor therapy.
  • Demonstrate skill in the use of specialized equipment and devices pertinent to treatment.
  • Prepare and assist with invasive procedures.
  • Identify, assess, and intervene for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
