About The Position

Step into your nursing future with our Clinical Nurse Extern (CNE) Program at The Johns Hopkins Sibley Memorial Hospital. This immersive externship is designed for motivated nursing students who are eager to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience. As a CNE, you'll work alongside some of Johns Hopkins' best nurses and providers, gaining mentorship, clinical exposure, and confidence in a fast-paced, collaborative care environment. Follow a real nurse's schedule, build essential skills, and get paid for the dedication you bring to our team. Program Highlights! Summer 2026 10-week Immersive Experience (June 1st - August 8th), Train and learn in specialty units within a Nursing department. Skills Development: Strengthen your clinical foundation with hands on skill days. May have opportunities to continue working: Stay on throughout the year (CNA License DC would be required). Understand a nurse's schedule by following their schedule (days, nights, and weekends included). Earn while you learn: Competitive pay throughout the externship. Joining our Endoscopy Unit means being right at the patient's bedside along one of our Nurses, fully immersed in meaningful patient care. Unit Details: Endoscopy ( Outpatient Setting, 6 procedure rooms) Hours: Hours Vary, day shifts during the 10-week Summer Immersion. Location: Opportunity to work at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington DC. Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing
  • BLS CPR certification required
  • Possess a passing grade in Fundamentals/Introduction in Nursing course
  • Required to attend all hospital, nursing, and unit orientation which occurs at a minimum during the first 10 weeks of employment. (36 hours/week)
  • June 1st-August 8th

Responsibilities

  • Monitor vital signs and assist with routine assessments
  • Support activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Track accurate intake and output (I&Os)
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to deliver safe, compassionate care
  • Contribute as an essential member of a high-performing clinical team
