About The Position

This 8-week, paid summer externship program will afford nursing students the opportunity to work alongside a skilled and experienced RN in the acute care setting. Gain hands-on experience by assisting with routine duties and practicing a variety of clinical nursing skills in the acute care setting. Clinical Nurse Externs who successfully complete the program will have the potential to maintain per diem status at conclusion of program. Externs must be available to attend all 8 weeks, and be able to work both day and night shift. Applications Open: year-round. Interviews: January/February 2026 (exact dates TBD). Externship Start Date: May 2026.

Requirements

• High school or equivalent is required.
• Completion of both fundamentals of nurse coursework and clinical rotation are required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of the RN.
• Perform a variety of routine duties involving the care of patients.
• Provide direct patient care or activities of daily living.
• Observe changes in the status of patients.
• Provide a clean and safe environment.
• Transport patients.
• Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team.
