The Clinical Nurse Educator provides orientation, training and education for the staff and patient care contract staff in their assigned area(s). He/She demonstrates the ability to utilize the educational process to assess, prioritize, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational activities to assist staff to attain/maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve competence in role expectations and improve the quality of patient care. He/She serves as an educational resource for staff and provides for Administration of the HealthStream Learning Management System. Riverside Community Hospital is a large acute care facility with 517 beds, established in 1901. It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County. The hospital is accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center and has a HeartCare Institute that offers both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. Riverside has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which it is very proud of. Requirements

  • Current California (RN) Registered Nurse License - REQUIRED
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree - REQUIRED. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years nursing experience in acute care hospital setting - REQUIRED
  • ICU and/or Telemetry experience - REQUIRED
  • Two or more years of experience as educator (adult education setting), with experience in program development and/or evaluation of programs - REQUIRED
  • Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with BRN, TJC, CDPH, OSHA, Title 22 and other applicable regulatory agencies - REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Assists in all core educational activities. Chooses and develops evidence based practice teaching strategies and course content to enhance attainment of course objectives, promote participants' critical thinking skills, and enhance patient safety.
  • Coordinates scheduling of clinical department educational activities with peers and Education Department commitments. Designs educational activities to incorporate principles of adult learning and utilizes interactive teaching techniques when appropriate.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of operational functions and reporting systems for Health Stream and the Learning Management System. Ensures content of educational activities is accurate, based on research findings, and/or current standards of practice.
  • Interacts with staff on routine basis and acts as key resource to staff on issues involving the clinical management of patient care.
  • Plans and implements educational programs to meet assessed learning needs of staff and to meet licensure and all other regulatory agency requirements. Prioritizes educational needs based on patient safety, staff safety, clinical competence, changes in practice, available resources, current organization/department goals and objectives.
  • Assists new employees with an orientation plan that facilitates acquisition of required competencies and the skills and knowledge to achieve role expectations.
