A Clinical Nurse Educator is a nurse with previous educational experience whose focus is on staff development and nursing education. This nurse is an educator, consultant, role model, staff/patient advocate, change agent, leader and cost-effective professional. In collaboration with nursing leadership, the Clinical Nurse Educator designs, develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of educational offerings to improve nursing care and clinical/organizational outcomes. The Clinical Nurse Educator elevates the standard of professional nursing practice at UCM by developing, coaching and mentoring staff to become expert clinicians and leaders. The Margaret M. and George A. Stephen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Comer Children's Hospital is among the largest in the Midwest, with approximately 1,000 admissions every year. Our NICU features 47 designated tertiary care beds (Level III) and 18 convalescent (Level II) beds. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be provided for up to three infants at a time by a special group of ECMO specialists who supplement the NICU nursing staff.
