About The Position

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of care by providing education and training to clinical and non-clinical personnel. This position is responsible for assessing educational needs, developing training programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The CNE serves as a clinical expert, supporting optimal service outcomes and acting as a resource for other healthcare institutions. The role encompasses education, clinical expertise, quality improvement, administrative duties, and consulting, all aimed at fostering professional development and improving patient care.

Requirements

  • Current license in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or another compact state.
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant clinical experience, and at least 2 years in specialty area, including age-specific patient population.
  • Detailed knowledge of nursing practice, research, and patient care in terms of theories and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC)
  • Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • 7 - 10 years of relevant clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous assessment of assigned staff educational needs.
  • Develop educational plans that meet organizational and departmental goals.
  • Coordinate service/unit/individual orientation.
  • Provide basic orientation in specialty area as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and provide continuing education for clinical staff.
  • Assess and provide education for the competency of assigned staff in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate UMCAP sponsored lectures and conferences.
  • Use teaching methods that facilitate the education process for adult learners.
  • Demonstrate creativity in presenting lecture material.
  • Maintain clinical expertise in area of specialty and facilitate problem solving of clinical care issues.
  • Participate in the development and review of evidence-based clinical policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to accomplish performance improvement objectives.
  • Provide educational input to clinical quality improvement efforts for the department/unit(s).
  • Promote staff participation in unit-based quality improvement initiatives.
  • Foster an environment of nursing research, scientific inquiry, and evidence-based practice.
  • Create, review, and revise overall program structure of the orientation process.
  • Evaluate the performance of new orientees and make recommendations regarding completion of the probationary period.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure educational programs that support organizational goals and strategic plan.
  • Inspire and encourage teamwork.
  • Recommend changes in practice that support operational financial targets.
  • Maintain records that fulfill requirements of regulatory bodies' standards.
  • Communicate consultation recommendations that affect the identified plan and facilitate understanding by stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise in support of organizational initiatives.
  • Act as a resource to affiliated organizations on behalf of UMCAP.
