The Clinical Nurse Educator oversees the ICU and Observation Unit, assessing, promoting, and contributing to the quality of nursing care administered to patients and their support systems throughout the health care continuum. This role requires specialization in nursing practice, including in-depth study of relevant theories and scientific knowledge related to various patient populations. The Clinical Nurse Educator must utilize the nursing process's sequential steps of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation in formulating the plan of care, while also supervising and educating others. Responsibilities include performing as an expert clinician, educator, and researcher, designing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs that lead to continuous improvement. The Clinical Nurse Educator must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, advanced critical thinking abilities, and the capacity to collaborate with medical providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote evidence-based nursing practice models. They are also responsible for motivating and educating staff to adopt new practice changes and adhere to organizational policies and procedures. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse Educator educates clinical nurses, nursing assistants, and technicians in the use of new equipment, coordinates in-service training and skills workshops, and may serve as a preceptor to influence staff nurses' professional development. They assist Nursing Leaders in achieving organizational strategic plan goals by monitoring quality data and staff performance.
