About the position

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Assigned to the Dialysis Unit at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, Springfield, Missouri. Responsible for the full range of care provided to ESRD patients in the dialysis areas and is responsible for providing instruction and oversight to trained Dialysis Technicians/Licensed Practical Nurses, and Dialysis Staff Nurses (RNs) administering patient care. Performs the full range of nursing duties at the level of the Registered Nurse. Plans, delegates, and coordinates care based on assessments. Prepares daily patient care assignments that are appropriate to the level of staff training/competency. Responsible for assisting other healthcare providers in the coordination of transplant patients pre- and post-care of the Dialysis Unit. Responsible for ensuring compliance with The Joint Commission standards related to a Dialysis Unit. Assists in the development and implementation of unit guidelines, policy and procedures to meet these standards. Performs therapeutic measures (medication administration, intravenous therapy, blood administration, specialized procedures, specialized equipment, etc.). Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse.
  • Passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Experience in a specialty area of nursing for GS-09 and above.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in professional nursing for GS-09.
  • One full year of professional nursing experience for GS-10.
