About The Position

Lead a high-performing medical-surgical team at a 585+ bed Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City, Missouri. This Clinical Nurse Coordinator (Charge Nurse) role is available on Med-Surg and Ortho/Neuro Trauma units with rotating weekends and 6:1 nurse-to-patient ratios. The CNC ensures high-quality, patient-centered care while coordinating all unit functions during designated shifts. This facility offers comprehensive specialty services including stroke care, cardiovascular programs, women's services, and orthopedics as part of HCA Midwest Health's 10-hospital network. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with RN Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current Missouri RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Strong current acute care Med-Surg experience (recent, within last 1-2 years)
  • Charge RN experience in acute care Med-Surg OR minimum 2 years recent staff RN experience on Med-Surg unit
  • Comfortable managing 6:1 nurse-to-patient ratios
  • BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required within 30 days of hire
  • Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous charge nurse or leadership experience in Med-Surg, Ortho, or Trauma settings
  • Active participation in professional nursing organizations

Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and coordinate all unit functions during assigned shifts in collaboration with management teams.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures, serving as a resource and role model for staff.
  • Assist with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient patient throughput and seamless care transitions.
  • Participate in ongoing quality assessment of patient care services and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and managers to create a teamwork environment that supports improved clinical outcomes and service excellence.
  • Support patient-first philosophy and engage in service recovery when necessary to enhance patient experience.
  • Operationalize nursing strategies including employee rounding, hourly patient rounds, and engagement initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations for interviewing, selecting, and training new staff while supporting professional development.
  • Implement corrective actions including training, conflict resolution, policy compliance, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and manage labor resources in accordance with patient care needs and productivity guidelines.
  • Support proper inventory control and assist with managing supplies and equipment efficiently.
