About The Position

Erlanger Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team, which is part of the 7th largest public healthcare system in the US. The Medical Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care across various specialties, including Cardiology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Bariatrics, Plastics, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Primary Care, Urology, and Women’s Services. The role involves both patient care and clerical responsibilities, ensuring smooth operations within the practice.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited or governed program OR military equivalent training OR one year of clinical medical assistant experience within the last 5 years
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and to be maintained going forward

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room
  • Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, collecting patient history
  • Perform screenings per provider guideline
  • Assist providers/nurses with various procedures, charting, relaying instructions to patients/families, answering calls and providing pertinent information
  • Send/receive patient medical records
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed
  • Schedule appointments
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics
  • Manage and update charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately
  • Review in basket messages
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control
  • Run quality controls on equipment as required and document/record keeping
  • Maintain logs: Refrigerator, Sample log, Quality control logs
  • Order, sort, stock supplies
  • Restock exam/procedure rooms as needed
  • Respect/promote patient rights
  • Respond appropriately to emergency codes
  • Share problems relating to patient and/or staff with immediate supervisor
  • Fulfill medical assisting responsibilities according to State guidelines/regulations, including aseptic technique, sterilization, vital signs, preparation for physical exam, clinical pharmacology, drug administration, minor surgery assists, pre/post surgical care, and laboratory procedures.
