About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist at Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for performing routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids. This role involves utilizing both automated and manual instrumentation to ensure timely and accurate testing, maintaining equipment and records, and adhering to quality assurance and quality control guidelines. The position requires independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems and may involve leadership responsibilities for laboratory technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred.
• New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit required.
• Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment experience required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment.
• Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed.
• Review data prior to release.
• Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values.
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
• Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
• May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians.
• Assist with the training of new employees.
• Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor as needed.
