Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
About The Position
We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor, sometimes referred to as a Core Laboratory Supervisor or Medical Laboratory Supervisor – Chemistry & Microbiology departments. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Chemistry and Microbiology departments, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory testing that directly supports patient diagnosis and treatment. This is a Full-Time position with day shifts available, consisting of 8-hour shifts with start times varying between 5am to 9am, located at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. The focus of the role is on the Microbiology and Chemistry Departments.
Requirements
- ASCP certification, or equivalent
- Minimum five years of clinical laboratory work experience required
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489)
- Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required
Responsibilities
- Lead the Chemistry and Microbiology staff, including medical technologists, laboratory technicians, and support personnel, responsible for scheduling, competency assessments, training, and performance evaluations
- Oversee complex chemistry and microbiology testing procedures, ensuring accurate analysis of patient specimens including blood, body fluids, cultures, and molecular testing in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
- Implement and monitor quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs to ensure reliability, precision, and accuracy of test results across all chemistry and microbiology platforms
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards including CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other governing agencies
- Supervise instrument maintenance, calibration, validation, and troubleshooting for chemistry analyzers and microbiology equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime
- Address operational challenges including workflow efficiency, staffing coverage, regulatory updates, and continuous process improvement initiatives
