About The Position

This position is for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife) within the Federal system, specifically serving locations in Chinle, AZ; Kayenta, AZ; Pinon, AZ; Tsaile, AZ; Crownpoint, NM; Gallup, NM; and Shiprock, NM. The role requires a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program, with specific specialties in areas such as Acute Care, Family, Geriatric, Midwifery, and others. Applicants must possess a current, active nursing license and meet additional requirements based on the grade level of the position (GS-09, GS-11, GS-12). Responsibilities include providing care to mothers and newborns, managing labor, performing physical evaluations, and collaborating with physicians during emergencies. The position is open from February 27, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted nursing license.
  • At least one year of professional nursing experience related to the specialty of Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Midwife).
  • For GS-09: Master's degree in professional nursing with a Midwifery specialty.
  • For GS-11: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree or one year of experience at GS-09 level.
  • For GS-12: One year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-11.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for mothers and babies throughout the maternity cycle.
  • Manage care of normal antepartum women including teaching, counseling, and support.
  • Take health history and perform obstetrical physical evaluations.
  • Manage labor and perform procedures such as starting intravenous infusions and administering analgesia.
  • Record labor and delivery details and complete birth certificates.
  • Manage care of normal newborns including nutrition and activity.
  • Perform complete history and physical examinations.
  • Prescribe medications and utilize fetal monitoring and ultrasonography.
  • Assist during cesarean sections and interpret lab results.
  • Recognize and respond to obstetric complications and emergencies.
