About The Position

This position is a federal role that requires applicants to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the job. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. A character investigation may be conducted on selected applicants to assess their honesty, integrity, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. The role involves moderate to arduous physical exertion and may require specific medical capabilities. Successful completion of training in relevant subjects is also considered qualifying for specialized experience. The position has specific minimum qualifications based on the grade level, which include a combination of general and specialized experience or education.

Requirements

  • At least six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience for GS-4 level.
  • At least two years of education above high school level for GS-4 level.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level for GS-5 level.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level for GS-6 level.
  • Ability to perform essential functions without risk to self or others.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in physical security procedures.
  • Experience in investigative techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Enforcing security rules and regulations.
  • Following facility restraint policy.
  • Escorting patients as needed.
  • Directing visitors to the appropriate department.
  • Protecting property against hazards such as fire, theft, and damage.
  • Maintaining order and protecting life.
  • Locking doors and gates to secure federal buildings.
  • Answering alarms and investigating disturbances.
  • Monitoring and authorizing entrance and departure of individuals.
  • Patrolling premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion.
  • Responding to medical emergencies and alarms.
  • Training subordinate security officers.
  • Providing leadership to subordinate security officers.
  • Conducting patrols of offices and buildings.
  • Checking locks, alarms, and perimeter barriers.
  • Writing reports and maintaining logs.
  • Investigating security-related events.
