About The Position

This position is responsible for the application, modification, adaptation, and extension of analytical methods and procedures in the performance of a wide variety of tests and examinations of human tissue, fluids, and other substances in the clinical laboratory. The role encompasses general laboratory tests and may include specializations such as chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, parasitology, hematology, immunology, urinalysis, and transfusion services.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must have a Bachelor's or higher degree in biological science, chemistry, or mathematics, and successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by NAACLS or a recognized accrediting body.
  • Must have 5 years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in relevant fields such as Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body.
  • Experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor routine tests and perform specialized tests and non-routine procedures.
  • Identify and resolve inconsistent test results.
  • Determine workload, workflow, and staffing capability of a particular section using standard management techniques.
  • Perform testing in several highly complex and specialized testing areas such as microbiology, AST, Polymerase Chain Reaction, and whole blood cellular components.
  • Maintain an effective accessible section records system including patient testing reports, daily section worksheets, and instrumentation preventative maintenance reports.
