The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs various chemical, microscopic, microbiological and hematological tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role involves recording laboratory test data, patient and quality control information, and active participation in quality control procedures, review, and corrective action. The scientist is responsible for maintaining expensive laboratory equipment and instruments and judiciously using materials. Additionally, they assist in training new lab personnel, externs, and students, and must carefully handle infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel. The position requires utilizing knowledge of human physiology and science to evaluate test results for accuracy.
