About The Position

This position is responsible for performing chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases for Oyate Health Center (OHC) patients.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science or related science..
  • Valid certification by a recognized certifying agency (ASCP, AMT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check, and a pre-employment drug screen.

You are required to agree that you will comply with all job-related employee health screening and immunizations prior to your first day of employment. Jobs require that you have documentation that you have completed the following immunizations prior to your first day of employment: MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Influenza, T-dap (Tetanus - Diphtheria - Pertussis), and COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible as lead tech in one or more of the following specialties: microbiology, chemistry, hematology,Serology/urinalysis. Works as generalist in these areas as well as phlebotomy when workload and staffing require it.
  • Conducts analyses of body fluids and/or tissue to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
  • Prepares reagents and primary reference materials.
  • Selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of non-routine and specialized test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols.
  • Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunctions; locates and implements corrections.
  • Obtains analytical data, performs calculations and converts to proper units for reporting if necessary; and correlates data to verify results.
  • Writes laboratory reports and provides to appropriate individuals.
  • Writes, reviews and edits policies.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and quality control on laboratory instrumentation.
  • Orders reagents, supplies and manages inventory within their specific department.
  • As Lead Tech, trains lab staff and laboratory students in this department as necessary. Develops competencies for all staff who perform testing.
  • Prints and evaluates monthly quality control. Initiates corrective actions when necessary.
  • Recommends and evaluates new procedures and instrumentation.
  • Tracks data for quality measures as required for Lab QAPI plan.
  • Performs testing in all areas of the lab and evaluates and reports results.
  • Rotates holidays and occasional weekends.
  • Performs manual differentials.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
  • Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.
  • Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment; identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs.
  • Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products. Maintains proper records for quality control reports.
  • Recommends and evaluates new procedures and instrumentation.
  • Reviews and reports patient results in laboratory information system/EHR.
  • May instruct other laboratory scientists, medical technicians, nurses and others in techniques, equipment use, lab test requests, etc.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative interdepartmental and external relations.
  • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs related duties.
