About The Position

This position requires a qualified candidate to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the role. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, along with the total number of hours worked per week. The basic requirements include a doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or equivalent, and a valid pharmacy license. Candidates must also demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for pharmacy work, which includes dispensing medications, evaluating medication use patterns, and maintaining medication records. Additionally, candidates must meet minimum qualifications, including at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, overseeing outpatient pharmacy clinical services, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
  • Current employee assigned to a position in the GS-0660 occupational series as of September 2017.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JCAHO accreditation requirements.
  • Manager level familiarity with collecting valid data for quarterly workload reports.

Responsibilities

  • Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners.
  • Providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects.
  • Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations.
  • Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program.
  • Planning, monitoring, and evaluating medication programs or regimens.
  • Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications.
  • Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Maintaining all medication records required by law.
  • Providing administrative operation oversight of outpatient pharmacy clinical services.
  • Managing drug selection, drug interaction review, and monitoring treatment appropriateness.
  • Preparing and maintaining department budget.
  • Creating schedules and assigning work for subordinates.
  • Evaluating work performance of staff.
  • Oversight of clinical programs and ongoing professional development of licensed staff.
