The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) II is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, and complying with all applicable local, state and federal laboratory requirements. The nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multitask and be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work independently in a team environment in both our Palo Alto and Redwood City locations, depending on the direction of management on a day to day schedule. Pay Differential: Employees working this 2nd shift will receive a 20% pay differential in recognition of their commitment to working non-traditional hours.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a university degree and generally at least 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science or related field preferred.
  • Clinical Laboratory experience or equivalent high complexity and volume laboratory experience preferred.
  • Laboratory experience within the last year preferred.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques preferred.
  • Must possess an active, valid CLS or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license issued by the state of California CLS or CGMBS license pursuant to Division 2, Chapter 3 of the California Business and Professions Code or to practice medicine, osteopathy or podiatry pursuant to Division 2, Chapter 5 of the California Business and Professions Code appropriate to the specialty or specialties they are performing.
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in 42 CFR 493.1489 or 493.1491.
  • Must fulfill requirements stated as described in 10 NYYCRR Part 58-1.5.
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in the College of American Pathologists Molecular Pathology Checklist.
  • Knowledge of applicable laboratory regulations.
  • Ability to apply feedback and maintain quality in daily testing.
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in computer systems and automation.
  • Clear, consistent, and proactive communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests and analyses per SOPs; review, interpret, and report results in LIMS.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; perform preventive maintenance.
  • Prepare and qualify reagents; document quality control procedures and corrective actions.
  • Identify and resolve high-complexity issues impacting test performance.
  • Support assay improvements, new configurations, and validation activities.
  • Supervise unlicensed personnel during analytical testing; train staff on procedures.
  • Write and review controlled documents; communicate effectively with team members.
  • Report quality or safety concerns to appropriate leadership; perform other assigned duties.
