About The Position

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Coordinator with the Anatomic Pathology Slide Room Team at the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake. Under general supervision, the Clinical Laboratory Coordinator performs critical tasks related to the Materials/Slide Room area of Pathology. Routine tasks include storing and archiving pathology materials, filling requests for materials internally and from external providers and facilities, and communicating material retention, storage, and release protocols with department members and other departments/facilities. Work schedule: 100% FTE Monday – Friday Day shift

Requirements

  • High school graduation.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience in a medical center setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and secure Pathology slides and tissue blocks.
  • Scan, sort, and file materials.
  • Use Pathology software applications to send, retrieve, and track Pathology and outside institution slides and blocks.
  • Use Pathology software applications to investigate, locate, and document materials and inquiries/requests.
  • Perform four daily runs to distribute material to labs and pathologies.
  • Use spreadsheets, word processing, and database software to develop and maintain records.
  • Deliver materials to residents, faculty, and other areas of the department as scheduled or as needed.
  • Prepare Pathology material for transport via established courier runs.
  • Process, track, and return all consult materials to originating institutions.
  • Archive Pathology materials according to retention policies and retrieve/return archived materials as necessary.
  • Process requests for additional materials from other institutions at the request of Pathology faculty and trainees.
  • Create invoices for send-out material/FedEx.
  • Answer the Materials Room telephone in a professional manner and direct calls as appropriate.
  • Respond to requests for information regarding Pathology materials, reports, and Materials Room operations.
  • Interact professionally and communicate appropriately and clearly with physicians, office management, and office staff in DLMP and other departments/institutions.
  • Notify supervisor of problems and help supervisor with investigations and resolutions.
  • In conjunction with supervisor, develop documentation and process improvements for areas of responsibility.
  • Archive surgical slides and block for pervious and current year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
