Requirements

  • Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Required. 2 years of College or an Associate's Degree is Preferred
  • Experience: 3 Years or more of lab related experience to include 3 months practicum gained in clinical, hospital or lab setting.
  • Certifications: State MA-P (Medical Assistant Phlebotomist) or MA-C (Medical Assistant Certified)

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer prior waived testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy duties as required, to include venipuncture and capillary techniques, using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.
  • Assure that requisition includes patient demographics and accurate required billing information.
  • Transcribe physician orders
  • Facilitate the unobserved collection of urine specimens.
  • Interact directly with patients to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation.
  • Process, label, and store specimen samples for subsequent analysis.
  • Perform and document various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Perform Med-Competence testing.
  • Enter waived testing results into the LIS utilizing the manual entry mode.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment. Perform light cleaning of work area
  • Perform specialized collection as requested.
  • Occasionally deliver or pick up specimens outside of the laboratory.
