About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant I (CLA I) plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by performing non-technical tasks. This position involves responsibilities such as phlebotomy, specimen processing, and light courier duties, all while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The CLA I is essential in maintaining a clean and organized work environment and providing excellent customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license for performing light courier duties.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift objects frequently up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
  • Moderate reaching, bending, and stooping required.
  • Ability to be on one's feet for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accessioning specimen duties, including receiving specimens into the laboratory computer system and labeling them appropriately.
  • Conduct phlebotomy duties with strict adherence to patient identification and specimen labeling protocols.
  • Prepare reference laboratory specimens according to the test catalog for stability and transport requirements.
  • Document and manage 24-hour urine volume accurately, ensuring proper handling of specimens.
  • Track specimens within the laboratory system and assist physicians with test additions as needed.
  • Carry out courier duties between AOMC and SJH.
  • Perform miscellaneous office functions such as answering phones, distributing faxes, and checking refrigeration.
  • Maintain communication with customers to ensure a secure and pleasant experience at ArnotHealth.
  • Organize and prioritize workload, identifying time-sensitive tests and managing them appropriately.
  • Comply with regulations and maintain readiness for inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment following safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients of all ages.
