About The Position

The Clinical Lab Technician (Phlebotomist) is responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures, conducting routine laboratory studies, and ensuring the quality and organization of laboratory operations. This role involves direct patient interaction, specimen management, and adherence to safety and quality protocols to support comprehensive patient care.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Laboratory Technician, Phlebotomist, or Medical Assistant required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the medical field or completion of an approved internship program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in CPR (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture following established procedures.
  • Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling and sorting specimens.
  • Check labeling, log specimens, and arrange reports for delivery while keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
  • Maintain quality results by running standards and controls and verifying equipment function through routine maintenance.
  • Calibrate equipment utilizing approved testing procedures and monitor quality control measures.
  • Prepare specimens for outside laboratory studies and maintain knowledge of specimen collection devices and tubes.
  • Keep lab stocked with adequate supplies and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Sterilize medical equipment and maintain it in good working order.
  • Practice safe work practices by using PPE appropriately and follow clinic guidelines and protocols.
  • Share information gathered from patients with appropriate team members to assist in comprehensive care.
  • Provide patient education explaining procedures and documenting education as appropriate.
  • Assist with completion of occupational health visits following established protocols.
  • Prepare and perform paperwork and clerical duties as necessary, including answering phones and computer entry.
  • Manage personal inbox and assist with calling patients for lab test results.
  • Participate in community health and disease prevention activities and daily Team Huddles with staff members.
  • Participate in staff development programs and promote team cohesiveness.
  • Treat staff, practitioners, visitors, and patients with dignity and respect.
