About The Position

The position is responsible for ensuring the validity of test results and applying criteria for specimen rejection. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of Quality Control, calibration, and standardization of instruments, exercising good judgment and proper interpretation of Quality Control data. Responsibilities include troubleshooting instruments, performing routine preventive maintenance, and demonstrating knowledge of the laboratory computer system regarding ordering, reporting, and verifying results. Familiarity with laws and regulations applicable to the laboratory is essential. The role also involves participating in the training of new employees and demonstrating knowledge of age-specific care for populations including infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. The individual is expected to incorporate the mission of HPMC, which emphasizes quality care with compassion and respect, into daily job functions. Effective communication of problems and concerns to the supervisor is required, along with the ability to respond to priority specifications for tests. The position requires understanding and verbalizing VBP goals and consistently participating in action plans to improve HCAHPS scores. The individual must support compliance with the Code of Conduct and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information while adhering to applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in laboratory technology or related field.
  • One year experience in a hospital laboratory, Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Extensive experience working with physicians and other clinicians; must have examples of successful collaborative efforts.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Incorporates HPMC mission of 'quality care with compassion and respect' into daily performance.
  • Communicates problems/concerns to Supervisor.
  • Responds acceptably to priority specifications for tests.
  • Understands and can verbalize VBP goals/targets.
  • Consistently participates in unit and hospital specific action plans to improve HCAHPS scores.
  • Uses AIDET in all settings.
  • Individually accountable for achieving core measures, HCAHPS, and other VBP goals.
  • Supports compliance and the Code of Conduct by maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information.
