About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join their team in Midland, TX. This PRN position will support the laboratory operations, performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures. The MLS will work Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the role may vary in level based on the candidate's experience. The position is crucial in delivering high-quality cancer care by ensuring accurate laboratory testing and supporting patient diagnosis and treatment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related healthcare field.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification or equivalent certification preferred.
• No experience required for Level 1; 3 years for Level 2; 5 years for Senior level.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with oncology laboratory procedures.
• Familiarity with CLIA classified testing standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen analysis and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Initiate and follow quality assurance and safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection from patients.
• Train employees in laboratory procedures and act as a resource for laboratory science information.
• Oversee daily laboratory activities in the absence of a supervisor.
• Document all quality control activities and maintain proper records of patient results.
• Prepare reagents and maintain adequate inventory of supplies.
• Participate in proficiency testing and prepare peripheral blood smears.
