Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Services, this person has the technical ability to perform clinical laboratory tests in departments assigned by management and has the ability to process specimens.
Requirements
Possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in laboratory technology or related science
One (1) year recent experience in a hospital laboratory
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
Ability to read printed material and gauges, etc. clearly and accurately
Use of corrective lenses required if such lenses are needed to perform work correctly
Responsibilities
Processes samples and performs clinical laboratory tests per physician’s request.
Assures validity of test results.
Applies criteria for specimen rejection.
Demonstrates knowledge of Quality Control, calibration and standardization of instruments.
Exercises good judgment and proper interpretation of Quality Control data and assumes responsibility for decisions.
Trouble-shoots instruments and performs routine preventive maintenance.
Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory computer system regarding ordering, reporting and verifying results and downtime computer procedures.
Is familiar with laws and regulations that apply to the laboratory.
Participates in training of new employees.
Utilizes age-specific knowledge when interacting with neonate, adolescent, geriatric, adult patient population and/or family members, i.e., communicates at appropriate level and appropriate way for the age, (i.e., verbal return for geriatric patients). Additionally, assures use of age specific knowledge to perform testing duties, ( i.e., utilizing heel stick for blood draw on neonate, etc.)
Completes.edu’s and other required hospital education by the due date.
Adheres to SRRMC Behavior Standards.
Complies with San Ramon Regional Medical Center Policies/Procedures protecting patient information and the confidentiality of the information in accordance with the Federal and State regulations.
Sets up quality control standardization and calibration procedures that monitor instruments applying acceptability criteria.
Executes predefined plans of action in response to quality control and documents actions.
Troubleshoots malfunctioning test systems/instruments.
Performs inventories and maintains reasonable supplies.
