About The Position

Functions as part of a dynamic and engaging laboratory team in a professional setting. This caregiver is an experienced LA who may act as a Team Lead or Trainer and serves as a resource to other caregivers, clinicians, and patients. The LA II may be responsible for heading special projects, to include research, continuous improvement, and product evaluations. This position also orders, prepares, and delivers specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers (only applicable at sites where LAs perform phlebotomy).
  • High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate in English (oral and written).
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations.
  • Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Adheres to all personal protective requirements including, but not limited to, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching concepts to others.
  • Previous clinical lab or pathology experience.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate labeling, accessioning, and processing of patient specimens, including tissue, blood, and body fluids, according to established procedures.
  • Compassionately communicate procedures and specimen collection instructions with patients and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrate empathy during every interaction.
  • Participate in special projects.
  • Train and mentor new staff.
  • Interact with pathologists and physicians.
  • Operate multiple computer and test ordering systems.
  • Operate basic laboratory equipment and automation.
  • Research laboratory testing requirements.
  • Perform sterile specimen preparation techniques.
  • Take appropriate action to solve problems and document errors.
