About The Position

Functions as part of a dynamic and engaging laboratory team in a professional setting. This caregiver is an experienced Laboratory Assistant who may act as a Team Lead or Trainer and serves as a resource to other caregivers, clinicians, and patients. The Laboratory Assistant II will be responsible for heading special projects, to include research, continuous improvement, and product evaluations. This position also orders, prepares, and delivers specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement. The Laboratory Assistant II (LA II) is an experienced Lab Assistant, with advanced knowledge of specimen processing in the clinical and/or pathology areas of the lab. Job Specifics: Benefits Eligible: No Shift Details: Variable shifts plus one weekend per month Essential Functions: Advanced knowledge of Electronic Medical Record and/or Laboratory Information System to place orders, receive specimens, route specimens, track specimens, store specimens, label specimens using the appropriate policy and procedure, and query test results. This may also include researching and resolving problems. Provides clerical, administrative, and customer service support to the department. Answers phones and provides information to nursing floor and physicians, office staff, couriers and patients. Dispatch of couriers, as required. Compassionately communicate procedures and instructions with patients, family members, and other caregivers and demonstrate empathy during every interaction. The Laboratory Assistant II may be responsible for deescalating stressful situations calmly and respectfully. Monitors and maintains supply inventory. May track usage and place orders. May perform waived testing Competent to perform specimen collection using many different techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections. These caregivers collect specimens from patients of various acuities, such as Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient – including newborns, patients in intensive care, and all other areas of the hospital. Responsible for training and orientation of new caregivers. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Lab Assistant within a healthcare system.
