About The Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina is seeking a fully-licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor ( LMHC ) to work in the Emergency Department on a full-time basis. The provider is responsible for the screening, ongoing evaluation, and treatment of patients presenting with mental health or substance abuse complaints. This professional will augment the primary emergency department care team in making psychiatric diagnosis and providing psychiatric treatment including but not limited to: giving a psychiatric diagnosis, responding to behavioral emergencies, providing supportive therapy, recommendations regarding involuntary commitment and providing resources and disposition collaboration with the multidisciplinary crisis team. Applicants are responsible for documenting psychiatric consult reports that outline assessment/medical decision making, treatment recommendations (level of care recommended), patient history, diagnosis and mental status exam. Applicant should have strong written, oral and organization skills and ability to manage in a fast-paced environment. This position always functions in the emergency department and is a set-rotating schedule. This position qualifies for shift-differential (evening and weekend shifts). This position qualifies for CME (continuing medical education) reimbursement through the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Responsibilities
