About The Position

The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRSP) degree program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track clinical faculty member at the rank of Clinical Instructor, or Clinical Assistant Professor. Appointment at the Clinical Instructor, or Clinical Assistant rank is dependent on qualifications relative to university and college standards. The successful candidate will be appointed on a 3-5 year contract that is renewable based on performance and are eligible to apply for promotion to higher Clinical Track rank. The RSP program is housed in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (SHAHS) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). The program is delivered as a 4-year residential program and as a degree advancement, online accelerated program, specifically designed for respiratory care therapists in the workforce. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to Southeastern North Carolina or the Wilmington area and maintain a campus presence as part of the SHAHS faculty. The role of the successful candidate will involve teaching face-to-face and online courses, and mentoring students in a clinical/professional/practice setting. The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate will reflect a strong commitment to clinical/field teaching (in the real world, laboratory or through use of simulation learning and supervision), professional practice, community, and regional engagement and impact activities, and applied scholarship related to professional practice. Appointment begins August 2026.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in respiratory care/therapy, education, or allied-health related discipline from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency at time of application.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the state of North Carolina or eligible to obtain RCP License in the state.
  • Clinical experience as a full-time, registered respiratory therapist (RRT).

Nice To Haves

  • Degree: Earned doctoral degree in respiratory care/therapy, education, or allied-health related discipline from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency.
  • Employment Experience in Respiratory Therapy or Related Fields: Proven experience of at least two years in of full-time clinical experience as a registered respiratory therapist (RRT).
  • In-Person Content Delivery: Proven ability to effectively deliver engaging and informative in-person content in both lecture and laboratory settings, fostering a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
  • Online Content Delivery: Proven ability to effectively deliver engaging and informative online content in lecture and/or laboratory settings (traditional and/or accelerated), fostering a dynamic and interactive learning environment.
  • Professional Organizations: Previous experience with professional organizations including the AARC, state affiliate(s), and accreditation in respiratory care (CoARC).
  • Community Involvement: Evidence of successful community involvement, including the ability to develop and sustain formal partnerships with relevant healthcare-related agencies.
  • Collaborative Relationships: Evidence of the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with constituents across the college and university, demonstrating effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Commitment to Personal Professional Growth: Proven commitment to personal and professional growth, evidenced by participation in professional development workshops, conferences, or research initiatives, showcasing a dedication to continuous learning and improvement. Accomplishments in scholarship, publications, and presentations associated with the position.
  • Student Facing: Strong relationship-building skills with students with diverse backgrounds.
  • AI: Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings.
