The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) at UC Davis Health plays a pivotal role in supporting clinical researchers by providing solutions that address both reporting and analytical needs. This position requires collaboration with various teams within the IT department to ensure that the data sharing mandates of the national consortium of Clinical and Translational Science Centers are met. The CIS will be responsible for extracting complex datasets from Epic's relational databases and other non-proprietary relational databases, performing all tasks associated with data retrieval projects, including requirements gathering, data curation, validation, secure data delivery, and accounting of disclosures. Protecting Personal Health Information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA standards is a critical aspect of this role, which may involve de-identifying data as necessary. In addition to data retrieval, the Clinical Informatics Specialist will evaluate and enhance analytics tools and improve data provisioning processes. The work performed by the CIS will be reviewed based on the achievement of objectives within the accepted parameters of UC Davis Health policies and procedures. The position is integral to the Data Center of Excellence (DCOE), which aims to optimize access to data and facilitate effective data use. The CIS will work closely with the Data Access and Delivery Team (DADT), which includes analysts specializing in business intelligence and SQL developers with expertise in EHR-derived health data and research data retrieval. The CIS will also be involved in ensuring high-quality data asset generation and provisioning, guided by best practices and standard operating procedures established by the DCOE leadership.
